How much does a custom scale model house cost?
I get this question every time and the real answer is – it depends on the effort involved. How much does it cost to fix a car, how much is a vacation, or how much does a real house cost? There’s a lot more to this question than a fixed price.
I’ve built models that cost $400 and models that cost $7500. The price depends on the effort involved.
Every Model Is Custom-Built From Scratch
Unlike pre-made kits that follow a generic design, your model is uniquely crafted to match your actual home—every window, door, roofline, porch, and detail is scaled, cut, painted, and assembled based on reference photos or plans you provide. That means no shortcuts, no templates—just meticulous, one-of-a-kind work made just for you.
Each Model Takes 40–60+ Hours to Build
These aren’t quick projects. Between researching, measuring, drawing, cutting, painting, assembling, painting, and finishing, each model takes weeks of focused time. It’s the equivalent of commissioning a custom painting or sculpture—something personal, detailed, and meant to last. You can’t go to your local hobby shop and find a house that looks exactly like yours.
Artistic Detail & Craftsmanship
From miniature railings to the right shade of siding, I obsess over getting every detail right. You’re not just getting a model—you’re getting a finely crafted, heirloom-quality gift that captures a moment in time and tells a story. Some of my architectural scale models can be found in museums.
Professional Tools, Materials, and Techniques
My models use high-quality materials, professional-grade cutting equipment and precise scaling methods—not hobby glue and cardboard. I use professional architectural software to plan your home so it all comes together in the end, premium basswood for durability and beauty, and each piece is designed and cut using a laser cutter for accuracy. The result is durable, refined, and beautiful from every angle. Seeing your house from across the room is one thing, but seeing the details up close is breathtaking.
Emotional Value That Can’t Be Bought in a Box
Many of my clients give these as heartfelt gifts—to honor childhood homes, celebrate a new chapter, or remember a loved one. In fact, the majority of my models are giving as gifts to parents, spouses, and friends. That level of personal connection is priceless, and the time and care that go into each model reflect that.
Bottom Line
Kits are great for a hobby. But if you’re looking for a deeply meaningful, incredibly detailed, display-worthy replica of a real home, my custom models deliver something far more valuable: a lasting memory in miniature form.
