Combining Art & The Love of Architecture
My name is Chris Petersen and I’ve been building custom scale model homes for 25+ years and love to practice my craft. I make custom scale model homes for homeowners to give as gifts or simply to memorialize their childhood home with an actual model for display and semi-custom scale models of iconic Sears Kit Homes.
Most of my creations are based on actual homes (existing or not) and I am always perfecting my process. The scale model homes I produce vary from HO to 1/4″ (O scale) however the larger 1/4″ scale provides the best opportunity to add more detail. I don’t consider these exact replicas but works of art. Since I’m rarely provided with exact dimensions I produce my models based off of photos (lots of photos) and simple measurements of each side of the house I create. Blueprints are ideal but simple measurements work too.

My Story
I grew up northwest of Chicago in Park Ridge, IL. My hometown consists of a multitude of architectural styles from modern to classic revival. It was only in my later years that I began appreciating the craftsmanship and variation in styles that went into building our town. I have captured some of that wonderful craftsmanship in a number of custom scale model homes. There are dozens of Sears Kit Homes in Park Ridge. Since the city was built on the Chicago & Northwestern Rail Road line, it was the perfect location for Sears to deliver the material, via rail, needed to build your own house in the 1920’s-1940.
