Georgian Colonial Revival

This is a scale model of an Executive home in Darien Connecticut. It was completely remodeled and they added the beautiful new garage and pool house (not shown).

So why do I consider this a Georgian Colonial Revival style house? There is a lot of symmetry to this house. The central block of the house is very balanced, with evenly spaced windows and a centered entryway. The new rock entry was added during the renovation. The entry has a pediment, pilasters, and a transom window, all hallmarks of Georgian/Colonial Revival style.

The gabled roof with dormers over the garage wing also ties into Colonial Revival traditions. Check out the proportions – The rectangular massing with chimneys on either side is strongly Georgian in influence.

The new carriage house–style garage with arched doors and cupola is more of a later adaptation, blending traditional Colonial Revival with practical modern design but I think it looks fantastic.

So overall, this house is a Colonial Revival style with Georgian influence—very common in upscale traditional American homes.
